Historical Facts of Ilam District

According to the history of Nepal, Great Nepal was extended upto Tista river in the east. Thre was long war between Nepal and Anglo-Indian, stopped by the treaty. After sugauli ttreaty, Ilam was confined upto the Mechi River as an international border of Nepal-India. Gajaraj Singh Misra from Nepal government signed over the treaty. The district headquarter of Ilam transferred to charkhol Ilam from Karfokgadhi. ('Ilam' was called "Charkhol". The second name was derived form 4 major rivers, Mai khola, Jogmai khola, Dewmai khola and Puwa khola). Sardar, Jayanta Khatri placed the flag of Nepal, the sword, the traditional in Maithan temple and worshipped as the power. Nepal Army has the duty of protecting these historical things and temple still today.
