Khandrung Cave (Gufa) of Siddithumka

Yubraj Ghorsai
Looking like real miracle of mere stones, Khandruk Cave is situated amongst the rare natural caves found in the Tamang village in the western part of Panchami Bazaar of Siddhithumka VDC ward no 4. Though it creates an illusion of a normal back of a person while looking from a distance, in this cave, once we enter here, we realize that this seemingly small place contains big dens and subways. Similarly, wonderful and startling sight and structure of stones are
also found here. Inside the cave there are five subways, which are more than 50 m. The entrance of these passageways, named as Bhuitala, Bichtala and Sirhantala, really deserve to be watched. Very narrow though at the entrance, we find these subways wide enough to walk freely once we make an entry. As only truly religious persons can pass through the narrow entrance, the cave is revered as a deity who is a protector of religion. Inside the cave various patterns of different animals like Naga, bird, elephant, tiger and the mark of the hoof of cow, and things like Dhiki, Janto, Dhupauro and Gajo and Dhangro of exorcist are found. Apart from these, the stones stacked in layers and the scenery around are also pleasing to look at. Spread in about 5 ropani area, this cave is also called Devidhad. In order that there is peace in the village; Goddess Kalika is being worshipped with the sacrifice of he-goats and chickens, following the long-practised tradition. Right in front of this cave is Siddhithumka peak and at the top there lies Ajambare hill.
