Mai is the biggest river in Ilam, which is popular and
starts from secret Lake Maipokhari. It is a holy river where many people
worship and take bath for religious purification from any crime that they did.
Maibeni faire (Mela or festival) and Mai valley are popular for all in
religious, cultural and social views. Different species of fish are found
there. It is important for agriculture and hydro-power. Brides and wild animals
are found in the dense forest of Mai valley. Sandakpur hill is the source of
Mai river that mixes with Jogmai at Maibeni.
